A review of FBI statistics show that more women than ever are being arrested for drunk driving, reports The Atlanta Journal-ConstitutionMLive.com.

Between 2003 and 2012, the annual number of women arrested for DUIs increased 21-percent from 174,000 to 211,000 throughout the U.S. While men were arrested far more often than women, the DUI arrest rate for men actually fell by 17-percent during this same time period going from 780,000 to 650,000.

So what's the reason for more women being arrested for DUIs? Researchers have many theories including that more women are now in the workforce, so there are simply more women drivers. In addition, some suggest that the social taboos for women to drink in public have long passed and many young women are going out and having a drink or two before getting behind the wheels of their car.

You should also be aware that there are fundamental differences between men and women including how alcohol is metabolized. For example, a 150-pound man and a 150-pound woman can drink the same amount of alcohol; however, the woman will generally register the higher blood alcohol content.
