The Washington State Patrol was reportedly very busy in Thurston and Pierce counties over Memorial Day Weekend, reports The News Tribune.
Authorities made 45 arrests of suspected drunk drivers over the weekend. Seventeen of the arrests occurred Saturday night. And four of the arrests were made following a car accident. There were no reports if anyone was injured in any of the incidents.
In preparation for the holidays, the Washington State Patrol had stepped up their efforts and assigned 14 troopers to work emphasis patrols in both counties.
The holidays are a particularly busy time for DUI arrests. Not only are more people celebrating and drinking alcohol, but authorities are also making a concerted effort to stop drunk drivers like we saw in Thurston and Pierce counties.
If you are arrested for a DUI, you should know that Washington State lawmakers are currently considering an overhaul to state DUI laws. These laws would impose stricter requirements on ignition interlock devices as well as provide more severe penalties for a conviction. The proposed laws are particularly harsh on repeat DUI offenders.
