University of Washington star tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins pleaded guilty to his DUI charge and will serve one day in jail, reports The Daily.
The 20-year-old had previously pleaded not guilty to the crime, but changed his mind as he struck the favorable plea deal.
In March, Seferian-Jenkins was busted for a DUI in Seattle after driving his car into a draining ditch at the Ravenna City Park. Police responding to the scene found a bloodied Seferian-Jenkins who also allegedly had a strong smell of alcohol.
The star football player was eventually taken to a hospital where he tested for a blood alcohol level of 0.18 -- more than twice the legal limit for someone over the age of 21. However, as the legal limit to drive for a minor is only 0.02, the 20-year-old was technically driving at nine times the legal limit.
Seferian-Jenkins was sentenced to 364 days in jail. As part of the plea deal, 363 of those days were suspended, so the football player was only ordered to spend one day in jail. The jail date has still not been set, but it reportedly will not interfere with Washington's football season (though it should be noted that Seferian-Jenkins is currently on suspension from the team).
Along with jail time, Seferian-Jenkins was sentenced to five years probation and was fined $695. He also had to attend a DUI victims' panel and a day-long information class.
As you can see, the jail time may be the least of Seferian-Jenkins' worries. One day in jail can come and go. However, his probation will last five years and his suspension from the football team could potentially jeopardize his career playing professional football.
