Last week, Washington's Traffic Safety Commission named San Juan County Sheriff Rob Nou and Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kim McClay as the recipients of the state's Target Zero Traffic Safety Awards. The two were given this honor for their work in arranging specialized training in 2011 for DUI detection and enforcement for every deputy in the county. The two had a congratulation cermemony with the County Council last week.
Target Zero has an ambitious goal of eliminating traffic fatalities in the state of Washington by 2030. The statewide awards are presented to a variety of people, including community leaders, law enforcement and others who work to improve safety on the road.
Prosecutor McClay, who previously worked for the City of Bellevue, is stepping down from her position to become a corporate lawyer.
