A suspected intoxicated driver was arrested on Friday night after rear-ending a police car at a red light, reports KOMO News. The accident happened shortly before midnight and involved a chain reaction crash of three vehicles.
Authorities say that the unidentified driver didn't stop his car in time at a red light in the Interbay neighborhood of Seattle, near Ballard. The suspected drunk driver had taken an off-ramp from 15th Avenue West and allegedly struck the police vehicle, which in turn struck the vehicle in front of him. A Drug Recognition Officer was called to the scene and processed the driver of the believed to be at-fault vehicle for driving under the influence. It was not reported whether the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, though the fact that a drug recognition officer was called to the scene suggests that marijuana or some other drug may have been at issue.
The police officer and the driver of the third vehicle both suffered minor injuries in the accident.
