Summer has almost officially begun and law enforcement agencies in the State of Washington are gearing up with their Summer DUI Enforcement campaign, reports KNDO 23.
As part of the campaign, extra officers will be patrolling the streets looking to catch drunk drivers. For example, from June 21 to July 7, Kennewick, Pasco, Richland, and West Richland Police Departments, along with the Benton and Franklin County Sheriff Offices and the Washington State Patrol will join forces to crack down on DUIs as part of a special campaign.
While DUI checkpoints are illegal in Washington, these agencies plan to stop drunk driving by posting extra officers to monitor roads during the early summer months. The target on the summer follows a five-year study that found that there tends to be an increase in traffic deaths during the summer from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend.
In last summer's DUI campaign for the same areas, law enforcement personnel stopped 349 drivers and arresed 74 of them for impaired driving.
It is always important to avoid drinking and driving regardless of the season. But with the increased emphasis on summertime DUI arrests, you may be caught in a wide net and wrongly accused of drunk driving.
If you have any questions about a DUI arrest in the Seattle or King County areas, you will want to work with an experienced DUI defense attorney. Prosecutors and law enforcement personnel are looking to convict suspected drunk drivers and you will need an advocate to represent and defend your rights.
