Silverdale man Edward Yedinak was reportedly arrested for two DUIs in the span of 24 hours, writes the Kitsap Sun.
In the first incident on April 5th, police responded to a call of a reckless driver. As deputies responded to the call, the 54-year-old Yedinak nearly ran down an officer before he was eventually stopped and arrested.
Yedinak told the officers that he recently had a lung removed and was on prescription opiate medication. However, a blood alcohol test showed that the man had a blood alcohol level over three times the legal limit of 0.26. Given his high blood alcohol content Yedinak was taken to a local hospital instead of jail.
That night Yedinak was released from the hospital and his car was impounded for 12 hours as required by state law. At about 2:40 p.m. the next day, police received another call of an erratic driver that had struck a vehicle and fled. Minutes later police received a call of a collision involving that same vehicle.
At the accident scene, the police found Yedinak who admitted to running a red light and striking the other driver. However, he again denied that he had been drinking. A blood alcohol test showed otherwise and he was taken to jail.
Yedinak was charged with two DUIs and reckless driving. He was sent to jail and his bail was set at $150,000. Yedinak had previously been charged with drunk driving in 2009 and 1992.
In Washington, prosecutors will typically look back seven years to determine the penalties to seek against a DUI suspect. Given his prior DUI charge in 2009, prosecutors will likely seek enhanced DUI penalties for Yedinak based on at least one prior DUI. With the two arrests coming within the span of 24 hours, Yedinak could see his potential penalties multiply even more.
If you are arrested for a DUI in the Seattle or King County areas, it is important that you talk to a Seattle DUI attorney. The penalties for drunk driving are severe. However, you should know that these penalties increase dramatically if you have prior DUI convictions in your history.
