The Washington State Court System recently posted Washington DUI and Physical Control case statistics for May 2012. See Report. A total of 2949 DUI charges were filed throughout Washington in May. In addition, a total of 1419 were found guilty of DUI in the month (although a majority of those convicted in May had their arrest month(s) prior. There was also 1627 DUI charges that were amended to a lesser degree in May (usually Reckless Driving or Negligent Driving First Degree).
The largest amount of DUI case filings in May came once again from the King County District Court System. There were 731 DUI charges in the Seattle, Redmond and Burien courthouses in May. In those 3 courts, 314 people were convicted of DUI during the month while 167 DUI had their case amended to a lesser offense. There were 99 Seattle DUI and Physical Control charges filed in SMC (Seattle Municipal Court) and 123 DUI convictions with 45 cases amended. There were 30 Kirkland DUI charges filed in May with 10 people being convicted and 26 people having their case amended.
Bellevue had a total of 23 cases filed with 5 Bellevue DUI convictions and 16 amendments during May. Redmond had 10 new DUI charges with 3 cases resulting in convictions and 14 others being amended to a lesser offense. There were 8 Issaquah DUI arrests filed in May with 5 DUI convictions atikilend another 8 cases resulting in a redution.
During May, there was heavy DUI enforcement during Cinco de Mayo and Memorial Day weekends. Law enforcement will be conducting increased DUI patrols in Downtown Kirkland On Saturday, July 21st and the following Friday (July 27th) in downtown Bellevue according to the Washington State Traffic Commission (See watikileaks.com).
