Law Enforcement ramps up for Cinco de Mayo DUI Patrols

Special DUI Patrols for Cinco de Mayo

As Western Washington embraces some remarkable weather with record highs, it is likely that many people will be going out this weekend to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.  Washington drivers should be forewarned:  Special DUI enforcement will be on the roadways looking for impaired drivers, reports Q13 news.

Officers will be patrolling areas that are considered "high-risk" for impaired driving crashes, including Seattle, Tacoma, Bellevue, Kirkland, Auburn, Renton and Kent, including other areas throughout King, Snohomish and Pierce Counties.  A Mobile Impaired Driving Unit (a converted "winnebago" with 3 breath test machines) will be in Kent to assist in processing drivers arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and/or physical control.

Prevent a Cinco de Mayo DUI arrest

The most obvious way to prevent a DUI arrest this weekend is to have a sober driver.  Other alternatives are to take a taxi or utilize public transportation.  In addition, several restaurants in the greater Puget Sound area will be handing out "Click it 2 Ride" cards.  These cards will enable impaired drivers to get a free ride home following their Cinco de Mayo celebrations.  Some of the restaurants participating in this free ride program are Azteca Restaurants (in King, Snohomish and Pierce Counties), Tapatio in Bellevue and LTD Bar and Grill in Seattle.
