King County Sheriff's Deputy Charged With DUI

King County sheriff's deputy Mark Rockwood has been charged with a DUI following an on-duty accident in February, reports KOMO News. The deputy reportedly just started his shift at 7 a.m. when police dispatchers received several complaints about his driving.

According to reports, Rockwood was driving erratically in a Shoreline police vehicle. Witnesses say he ran red lights and even stopped at an intersection while driving up Highway 99. The 47-year-old Rockwood eventually rear-ended another vehicle and police officers from several surrounding areas came to the scene. The authorities say that Rockwood appeared very "confused and disoriented." While he was wearing his uniform, the arresting officers say that Rockwood looked disheveled and had trouble standing. His gun was also missing and Rockwood apparently told the officers that he had no idea where it was.

Authorities did not suspect that alcohol played a role in the bizarre escapade. However, they did call in a drug recognition expert. During the sobriety tests, Rockwood actually feel asleep on several occasions. He eventually admitted to the officers that he had taken at least four Ambien sleeping pills along with acid reflux medication, foot fungus medication, Lorazepam, Xanax, Lamisyl, acetaminophen, Oxyperoly and an antidepressant. With this cocktail of drugs in his system, it is no wonder that Rockwood had trouble driving. The 19-year-veteran of the sheriff's office was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
