The most talked about Christmas gifts may be the Xbox One or the Playstation 4. However, the most important Christmas gift may be the gift of life.
The Washington Traffic Safety Commission is offering gift cards that can be filled out for the "Gift of a Safe Lift." These gift cards are blank templates that allow the giver to fill out. The giver of the gift card will add his or her name and contact information. The recipient of the gift card will also be named.
By giving the gift card, the giver will presumably guarantee the recipient a safe and sober ride home regardless of the time of night and with no questions asked. These gift cards may make great stocking stuffers to parents and relatives of young drivers. Teens and young adults do not always make the best decisions and by offering one of these gift cards, you can help ensure that your child does not compound his or her mistakes.
Along with offering the gift cards, the Washington Traffic Safety Commission also offers some tips for keeping your family and friends safe during the holidays:
- Call 911. If you suspect that a driver is impaired, give the authorities a call. You should also make sure to remain a safe distance from the suspected drunk driver and give the authorities a detailed description of the vehicle.
- Don't Drive. If you plan to drink alcohol or smoke marijuana, don't get behind the wheels of your car. Make plans ahead of time.
- Talk To Your Kids. Communicate with your children the dangers of driving impaired. Also let them know never to get in the same car with a drunk driver.
