The statistics are in for Washington State DUI and Physical Control cases filed in April of this year See Report. A total of 3097 DUI or Physical Control cases were filed in the municipal and district courts throughout Washington. This is a nominal increase from the 3033 Washington State DUI charges filed during the month of March.
The King County District Courts (Seattle, Redmond and Burien Divisions) had the largest amount of DUI cases filed in April with a total of 387. Any person arrested for suspicion of DUI or Physical Control by a State Trooper, Sheriff's Deputy, University of Washington or Port of Seattle Police Officer in King County would have their case filed in the King County District Courts.
The largest municipal court in Washington, Seattle, had a total of 137 new DUI or Physical Control charges filed. Kirkland Municipal Court saw a total of 41 new DUI cases. Bellevue Municipal Court had 24 new DUI charges filed. The City of Redmond filed 12 new cases in March. There was a total of 780 new DUI and Physical Control cases filed in all of the courts of King County. This represents just over 25% of all the new charges for March.
There is also data regarding how Washington State DUI and Physical Control cases were resolved. Most of the cases resolved in April stem from charges that were filed months prior. 273 King County DUI or Physical Control cases ended as a finding of guilty as charged in April. There was also 438 charges that were amended to a lesser offense (Reckless Driving or Negligent Driving). And there were 12 King CountyDUI cases that went to trial in April.
It is apparent that the number of arrests for DUI in Washington for 2012 is remaining constant despite the best efforts of the Washington Traffic Safety Commision's and Target Zero Team's best efforts in curtailing impaired driving.
