Recent "Drive Hammered, Get Nailed" Campaign led to Hundreds of DUI Arrests throughout Washington
The Washington Traffic Safety Commission recently wrapped its annual “Drive Hammered, Get Nailed” campaign. The campaign ran from August 17th to September 3rd, and more than 1,600 arrests were made statewide. King County alone saw 364 arrests, all of which involved motorists suspected of driving under the influence.
This year, a number of King County law enforcement agencies participated, including police departments in Auburn, Bellevue, Black Diamond, Burien, Clyde Hill, Covington, Des Moines, Duvall, Enumclaw, Federal Way, Issaquah, Kent, Kirkland, Maple Valley, Mercer Island, Newcastle, North Bend, Pacific, Port of Seattle, Redmond, Renton, Sammamish, SeaTac, Seattle, Snoqualmie and Tukwila, according to the Seattle Times. The State Patrol also took part in the operation.
Other counties have also announced their results. Benton and Franklin counties saw 70 arrests, Whatcom County saw 42 arrests, and Cowlitz County County saw 26 arrests. These numbers don't compare to King County, but King has more residents than any other county in the state. Last year, 452 arrests were made in King County alone.
Annual campaign set in August as it is one of the most dangerous months on Washington's roadways
The Traffic Safety Commission started “Drive Hammered, Get Nailed” because August is statistically one of the deadliest months of the year on Washington's roadways. Though fewer arrests were made in King County this year, the statewide numbers are still pretty staggering.
