Police believe that two drunk drivers caused a serious crash in Bellevue early Thursday morning, reports the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. The two-car accident caused one passenger serious injuries and shut down the 3100 block of 148th Avenue in Bellevue for a short period of time.
The accident occurred at 2:10 AM when an Acura SUV traveling southbound on 148th Avenue reportedly struck a Ford Taurus attempting to turn left into an apartment building on the same street. The Acura t-boned the Taurus causing significant damage in the Taurus. One of the passengers in the Taurus suffered serious, though not life-threatening, injuries.
The 29-year-old driver of the Acura and 57-year-old driver of the Taurus were both booked into King County jail for investigation of vehicular assault. Police suspect that the driver of the Acura was going much faster than the posted speed limit of 40 mph when it impacted the Taurus. However, the police have also not absolved the driver of the Taurus from any fault. The accident caused the road to be shut down for about four hours.
